How to Make Fire Extinguisher at Home Easy Experiment

Hello friends, today we will learn how to make a fire extinguisher at home and will do fun with a balloon. Making a fire extinguisher at home is very simple and fun we can easily do this experiment using household cooking items like vinegar and baking soda.

Let’s Start

Materials required :

  • A candle
  • Lighter
  • Glass
  • Vinegar
  • Baking soda

Process :

  • Put the candle on the table.
  • Lit the candle with lighter.
  • Pour 50ml of vinegar.
  • Pour some baking soda into the glass. The reaction will start soon. Tilt the glass towards candlelight.
  • Candle stops burning when we tilt the glass towards candle.

Science Behind It :

We know that the best way to extinguish the fire is to cut off its supply of oxygen. Fire extinguishers cut off the fire’s contact with air which contains oxygen. Carbon dioxide is the most common gas for this. Here we are using Vinegar which is a solution of acetic acid (CH3 COOH) in water and baking soda which is known as sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3). Baking Soda is basic in nature and vinegar is acidic in nature when they react they form carbon dioxide, water, sodium and acetate ions. Here carbon dioxide gas fills the glass so we pour over the candle flame to extinguish it.

Balloon over Nails

Now we are going to do a very interesting experiment with a balloon. We can easily pop the balloon using a nail because all the force that the nail apply is concentrated upon a very small area. The balloon burst if the pressure is higher than the air pressure inside the balloon while contacting the tip of the nail to the surface of the balloon. With many nails, the balloon doesn’t burst easily. So, let’s start to do this experiment and know why this works.

Materials required :

  • Nails
  • Balloon
  • Glue gun

Process

  • First check with one nail with a balloon.
  • Glue about 30 to 40 nails on the table.
  • Fill the air in the balloon and put over the nails.
  • Do this many times.
The balloon will not burst easily. When we put more pressure on the balloon then balloon will burst.

Science Behind It :

Here when we make a bed of nails and press the balloon on it the force is distributed on the surface of the balloon and the pressure on the balloon decreases.

The same principal uses by circus artist to lay down on nails.
